Coding with Perplexity.ai: ScrollerHopper

So for this game I used Perplexity.ai, it is one of our teams go-to Ai apps. The free version is fantastic for basic inquiries and a great starting point for noobs or the tech-deficient among us. Perplexity is different from many other Ai’s in that it uses a framework of search and references for answering queries.

All that said, to code well with Perplexity.ai you will need the Pro subscription. In terms of paying for an Ai we have found this to be the most bang for our buck. First it ups the references it uses in the responses, but more importantly lets you choose what model you want powering it, with most the large models available (Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, etc) as well as your image generation model (yes image generation is included Perplexity Pro). I have not hit any limits in terms of use, and I have used it a ton, and you can switch between models at will.

Now to the coding access, with Perplexity Pro you get access to different “focuses” for your chat, Academic, Math, Social, Video, Web, and what we use for coding, Writing. Each of these focuses have great benefits especially for folks looking to use Ai in many different ways, and is especially good for students (a great college gift idea). So for coding we switch the focus to writing, our Ai to Claude Sonnet 3.5, and get started. Since Perplexity allows us to share your chats there is no need to copy and paste it, you can just check out our full chat and code here.

Unlike using Claude.ai or DeepSeek directly, Perplexity won’t run the code in window, so you do have to copy and paste it to a text file and run it local to test it out. If you need help though, just ask and it will walk you through it. As you can see this was a pretty quick and simple chat, and gave a pretty simple but fun game. So get coding and create something fun yourself. Check out ScrollerHopper here, and just to prove I got a good score, my screenshot is below (see High Score, 99, heck yeah).
